7 more days

The last few weeks have gone by so fast, we have been busy. The month started off with Ryan's Spring Choir Concert. I've enjoyed all of Ryan's concerts this year, but this last one to me was so relaxed and enjoyable. They sang more current songs and the kids even got to do individual songs. It was like Webb's version of Glee. I really like hearing all the talented young people. Ryan told me later that he was going to try out with his friend but when his friend backed out he got "a little" stage freight and decided against going by himself.

Then on May 13th, the 6th grade choirs from all the Garland schools competed, they tied with another school for 1st. To celebrate all the hard word they have done over the school year, the 6th grade choir got to spend the day at Hawaiian Falls Water park the following Saturday.

Ryan couldn't wait for the this past weekend. Saturday the entire school choir went to Six Flags. He was so very excited and ready to ride all the rides. By the time he got home on Saturday, he was ready to pass out.

Hopefully this last week of May goes by fast. On Friday, it's Hawaiian Falls Day. The kids get to spend the day at the water park. It's like a end of year reward for working hard and taking the TAKS test. Plus it's a great start to the 3 day weekend.

I can't believe how fast this school year has gone by, Ryan only has 7 more says left of 6th grade.

More than just an old building, it's our history

What do you see when you look at the picture below? Most people see just an old building with over grown grass and vines covering the outer walls.

To me I see the hustle and bustle of my school days. Pep Rallies in the lawn, hanging out at the picnic table at lunch time.

I graduate in 1996, my senior class was the last to graduate from the old school (I'm very proud of the fun fact.) A new school, complete with red tin roof, that housed the entire student body PreK-12 opened the following school year, thus the decline of our old high school. Now the school board wants to tear it down. I can hardly believe it. This building has so much history.

Practically everyone in town went to school there. My step mom, all her brothers and sisters and cousins. Not to mention the fact that I had some of the same teachers that taught them, taught me (Shout out Mrs. Dawson.) Plus, Bobo & Jaja (my step grandparents) were long time employees. Now they want to tear it down. To me this building should be renovated into a community center or a library or something useful. Something that will benefit the growing community of Bremond. A number of other communities have done just this. I think this should be an option that the board at least consider.

Please help us and sign our petition. The school board meets again in June and the demolition is on the agenda. Please help us and sign our petition, this place is more than just an old building, it's our history.

I'm sorry...I'm slow

Lately, Ryan has been interested in working out. He has been out in the garage hitting the heavy bag and jumping rope. He also has to run a mile every so often in his P.E. class. I on the other hand have not been interested in working out lately. Instead of going to the gym I have just been running around the neighborhood and sometimes I head to the park that's about 1/4 mile from our house. The other day I was letting Ryan now that I was heading out to go run at the park, he asked if he could go with me. Well of course I said Yes.

So off we went to the park. The trail I run is around the pond, its about 1/4 of a mile around. We started running and Ryan was doing good. We completed the first mile and decided to stop and walk. I look over at him and he has this distressed look on his face. So I asked him if everything was ok. If we needed to slow down? Ryan kind of started to grin and that's when I asked, "What? I'm I not running fast enough?" He said yeah and asked if he HAD to run with me. I told him that I was sorry for having short legs and to run at his pace. Off he went leaving me in his dust. We ran another 1.5 miles and in that time Ryan and his long legs pasted me up 2 times.

{Here's Ryan passing me up for the 2nd time}

When we were done, we went to the pier and just watched the ducks.

I really enjoy spending time with this guy.

The house that built me...

There is a song by country artist Miranda Lambert that I absolutely fell in love with it. It's her new single, "The House That Built Me." It is a wonderful song. I got all teary eyed after I heard the song in its entirety. This morning I was reading an article about how Miranda didn't write the song but very well could have. It's a eerily similar retelling of her childhood, of a difficult time in her family's life when she was younger...I think people can relate to the song. I know a few particular lines in the song that hit home with me.

You leave home, you move on and you do the best you can. I got lost in this whole world and forgot who I am. I thought if I could touch this place or feel it this brokenness inside me might start healing. Out here its like i’m someone else, I thought that maybe I could find myself.

I truly believe where I grew up shaped the way I am. With all the good times and bad, I know in the end it was all for the best.
